What Categories of UV Light Are There?

UV light is divided into three categories based on the wavelength:

• UV-A – Wavelength: 315–380 nm
• UV-B – Wavelength: 280–315 nm
• UV-C – Wavelength: 100–280 nm

The most harmful is exposure to UV-C rays, but naturally, we are not exposed to this light because the ozone layer protects us. Unfortunately, the ozone layer is gradually degrading due to human industrial activities.

Which UV Light Helps with Disinfection and Which Helps with Finding Stains?

• UV-C light is most effective at killing microorganisms. It’s important to remember that improper exposure to UV-C can cause microorganisms to mutate instead of being killed!
  • The exposure time should be 3 to 6 hours. If you want to disinfect a sofa, make sure to disinfect all sides. In some cases, disinfection time can even extend up to 24 hours.

• UV-A light is sufficient for detecting stains. It’s a much cheaper tool and can be purchased for as little as 40 PLN on platforms like Allegro. UV-A radiation is relatively safe for humans, as it is the same type of radiation found in sunlight and reaches the epidermis, penetrating deeper into the skin. However, excessive exposure to UV-A and UV-B (such as prolonged sunbathing) can lead to premature aging of the skin and, in the worst case, increase the risk of skin cancer.
